Biography

Mr. Weatherford received BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State in the 1930's, was a high school teacher in Wisconsin, and professor at San Jose State University. He returned to Arlington, Oregon, his birthplace, in 1942 to take over the family wheat ranch and build his lifelong career as a rancher.

Marion Weatherford was a long-time leader and spokesman for the Oregon wheat industry, past president of the Oregon Wheat Growers League, a founding father of the Oregon Wheat Commission, a member of trade missions to Japan and Germany for Governors Mark Hatfield and Tom McCall, and regional advisor to the U.S. Forest Service. He was a stalwart supporter of OSU research, teaching, and Extension Service programs, including 4-H offerings for 50,000 plus young Oregonians. He received OSU's Distinguished Service Award in 1979.
